Exempt waste operations moving to environmental permits
Some waste operations will no longer benefit from an exemption especially those involving higher quantities of waste and will require a permit.
NEW - 1 October 2011 transition
Customers who have currently registered Paragraphs 9, 10, 12 or 19 and cannot comply with one of the new exemptions will need to apply for a permit by the 1 October 2011. Please read this page for more information about the October transition:
If you have already checked that your waste operation is no longer exempt then take a look at the standard rules permits below and see if they cover your activity. If they don’t you may need to apply for a bespoke permit.
Storage and spreading of sewage sludge (para. 6)
Treatment of land for agricultural improvement or ecological benefit (para. 7)
Reclamation, restoration or improvement of land (para. 9)
Storage and composting of biodegradable waste (para.12)
Manufacture of soil, soil substitutes, roadstone and aggregate (para. 13)

Storage and recovery of scrap metal or dismantling of depolluted motor vehicles (para. 45)
