The Governments Resource Efficiency body WRAP provides a number of tools and services that are tailored to the needs of the Food and Drink Industry.
Regulated businesses that are required to adopt Best Available Techniques in the management of resources and smaller businesses will find this support helpful in making a start with the development and implementation of their resource efficiency plans.
Water efficiency
Two programmes that will be of particular interest are the Federation House Commitment and the Rippleffect. These provide training materials and on-site support to help businesses of all sizes reduce their costs and improve water efficiency.
Waste prevention, minimisation and recycling
As well as the Courtauld Commitment, manufacturers looking to reduce waste can join the Rethink Waste initiative. The initiative is an online training package that offers in-depth publications, case studies, audiocasts and practical support to help businesses on their path to waste prevention.
The Courtauld Commitment helps companies to make efficiencies around food, drink and packaging waste in the UK from both an industry and a consumer perspective:
WRAP currently offers support to the hospitality sector through guidance documents for waste minimisation and a directory for the collection of glass.
Industrial symbiosis
WRAP oversees the successful Industrial Symbiosis programme NISP, that provides businesses with tailored support to help maximise the value and business opportunity from using resources.
