The Blue Gym is a social networking website that helps us enjoy our water environment. Find out how to join.
What is the Blue Gym?

The Blue Gym is a Peninsula Medical School initiative supported by the Environment Agency, Natural England and the Department of Health.
For those who already take part in a sport or activity, the Blue Gym is a great way of encouraging others and to pass on some of that feel good factor you get from water.
For organisations, clubs and even just loose groups, it is a chance to showcase what you’re up to, attract new members, exchange information about events and campaigns and communicate with everyone out there.
At the Blue Gym you’ll find out about activities and sports, meet like-minded people, join groups, share photos and make a difference to the environment while getting fit!
Why should I join the Blue Gym?
There are many benefits of regular contact with the natural environment, including reduced stress, increased fitness, stronger communities and increased awareness of the value of the natural environment. Remember the best sailor, surfer or rock pool rambler is the one having the most fun!
In fact, research is currently underway to prove the benefits of being active around water, including an evaluation of GP referral of patients to Blue Gym activities.
Share the Smile
Share the Smile is a Blue Gym initiative to encourage people who already get the benefits of being active around water to introduce others so we can spread the health and wellbeing benefits more widely across the nation.
Donations to Share the Smile will fund local programmes and taster sessions for those who may need a helping hand to enjoy the Blue Gym. Help share the smile that comes from being active around water!
Maptastic
The Blue Gym maptastic mapping system enables people to map their own Blue Gym facilities and events. When populated more widely it will provide a shop window for anyone in the UK to search for Blue Gym activities near them.
