River and Coastal Engineering Foundation Degree

Our River and Coastal Engineering Foundation Degree, co-created with The University of the West of England and Middlesex University's Flood Hazard Research Centre, combines practical skills development with theoretical learning.

University of the West of England and Middlesex University's Flood Hazard Research CentreYou’ll join one of our Flood and Coastal Risk Management departments on a two-year training and development programme, rotating through a number of teams and gaining exposure to a wide range of areas. At the same time, you’ll attend the University of the West of England for 6, one-week study blocks. And you’ll complete a number of e-learning assessments and a major project each year.

To make sure you’re fully supported, you’ll be paired with a mentor who’ll be there for you throughout the whole course. For three days a week you’ll train with one of our teams on real projects, the remaining two days you’ll spend studying towards your foundation degree. There really couldn’t be a better start to your civil engineering career.

What you can expect

We provide a £12,000 annual training allowance, which is free from Tax and National Insurance contributions. We’ll pay for your tuition fees, your textbooks, accommodation during your weeks at University and your travel expenses to and from University. In addition, you’ll receive 20 days holiday per year.

We’re recruiting 19 candidates across all eight of our regions. You’ll need to indicate your first, second and third preferred area choices on your online application form. Our vacancies are in the following areas:

  • South West - Bodmin
  • Wales - Bangor and Llanelli
  • Midlands - Lichfield and Nottingham
  • North East - Leeds, Newcastle and York
  • Southern - Worthing, Addington and Winchester
  • Thames - Frimley and Oxford
