We consult the public on all applications for bespoke permits and those variations that involve substantial change. In some cases we also consult on draft decisions for environmental permits. This page lists the open consultations on draft decisions.
Our Public participation statement tells you more about when we consult.
Public participation statement
What does this involve?
We put the following information on the Public Register.
- a decision document that explains our proposed decision and the reasons and considerations on which we’ve based this.
- additional relevant information available since the application was advertised.
- any information or guidance provided by the Secretary of State relevant to the application.
We have used publicly available technical guidance and tools to assist our decision making which are available on our website.
Environmental permitting guidance
You can inspect these documents free of charge at the appropriate Environment Agency office during normal office hours (usually 9am-5pm Monday to Friday).
If you want to comment on our draft decisions, you can make representations in writing to us within 20 working days from the date of the advert here.
The representations we receive must normally be placed on the public register. If you don’t want either your identity or your full representation to appear on the public register, you should make a request to this effect.
If we receive any representations we will take these into consideration.
Once we’ve made our final decision we place a copy of it in the public register, together with the reasons and considerations on which we have based this decision, including information on the public participation process. If we don’t receive any representations within 20 working days, we include a statement that none have been made.
Each month we publish a summary of all permitting decisions on our website.
